The development of greater collective awareness, combined with eco-sustainable technologies are guidelines for following up on an innovative and truly sustainable path.

The UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the strategy of complete traceability from field to plate defines a new scenario in which the ability to know what happens along the production chain increases the awareness of consumers about what they eat, and which resources are used to cultivate, transform, and produce.

In addition to transparency, also the long-term objectives of the European strategies (EU 2050) represent the confines within which the Physis ecosystem takes shape.

The Scenario

The general purpose is to contribute to a sustainable and long-lasting growth, to safeguard the common good by protecting the soil, optimizing the water use and unburdening the water resources exploitation.

The Physis ecosystem supports the production of safe, quality foods with a great attention to environment and social ethics, within an economic system organized to reduce both the waste deriving from production and the waste of natural resources.

Specifically, with our technologies we aim at:

  • Reducing the use of chemicals deriving from synthetic molecules, such as agrochemicals and fertilizers
  • Decreasing the water footprint through a lower water consumption in the field
  • Diminishing the air pollution
  • Improving the organoleptic qualities of the grown products
  • Lowering the pollution of groundwater

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

One of Physis’ points of strength is Research&Development: thanks to its wide international network of relations with universities, research centres, testing laboratories and innovative companies, Physis could create a complete technologic production chain that allows to access to, and interact with, a huge know-how ranging from biotechnologies to nanotechnologies to robotics.

Kalavit

Until now, Physis has started the registration process of a bio-desiccant named Kalavit.

It’s a natural matrix formula consisting of latest-generation mixtures acting by contact on the weed, through a mechanism of cell desiccation.

A zero-impact biotechnology that leaves no residues, neither in the environment nor on the crops, and does not alter the soil’s biome.

Kalavit can be employed in the agricultural industry, to control the weed on the ground and to contain the basal shoots, for those cultivations where synthetic molecules are not used anymore.

In the non-agricultural sector, Kalavit can be used to control weed in the urban green management and in the maintenance of roads, motorways, and railways.

Experiments

In parallel, our R&D department has started the field experiments of a range of products classified as “bio stimulants“: natural and/or biosynthetic substances that can be applied to seeds, plants and soils.

These biotechnologies have shown sustainable impacts and optimal performances for the agricultural production, including:

transport of nutrients

Activation of the transport of nutrients in the plants’ lymphatic system, optimizing their nutrition

metabolism and resistance

Promotes the metabolism and the resistance of plants to adverse abiotic and biotic factors

water regime

Optimizes the water regime, improves the water retention capacity and the water content of the leaves.

Decrease of phytotoxicity after treatments with phytochemicals

Additionally, Physis is collaborating with a national research centre in testing a new technology that, through a physical-mechanical process, allows to improve the water quality making it more vital, full of energy, lighter and better absorbable by plants – resulting in a better vehiculation of the active and nourishing principles, with a consequent saving of phytosanitary products, water and treatments in the fields.

Seize the opportunity

The preliminary analyzes conducted suggest an easy coverage of 5-10% of the available surfaces in Europe and other countries.

The main reference markets will initially be:

agriculture

Biodesiccants applied on weeds and to ward off insects; the 100% natural product and organic, it has the advantage of not causing any damage to either the plants or the surrounding environment, marrying with the growing sensitivity towards the environment. On the Italian market, the areas of application potentially concern over 1.85 million ha

Road maintenance

Grass grows along the edges of roads and highways, and are often difficult to remove without using chemicals that cause significant environmental damage. More and more countries are passing regulations that ban the use of synthetic herbicides on roads, with consequent increases in costs associated with their maintenance, which should be carried out manually. A natural product would make it possible to conquer a market that until now had no barriers to entry.

The European market alone expresses a potential of approximately 18.7 million hectares, an interesting opportunity for Physis and its investors.
